Hello dear readers! Hope you’ve all been well!
I had a lovely break day: a photo-shoot in a gorgeous park, late lunch at a chic little restaurant I found on Yelp, and explored some nice new grocery stores. Despite all the problems of the twenty-first century, I can’t help but think: what a great time to be alive. What are the threats of AI going beserk and taking over the world compared to being able to find new, amazing places to play/eat/explore?
I found a new favorite song this week: “Top or Cliff” by Kim Sejeong. I recognized her from THE hit rom-com K-drama of 2022 “A Business Proposal.” I had heard something about all four leads of “A Business Proposal” being idols before entering the acting world, but hadn’t paid it much mind at the time. Thanks to YouTube’s algorithm, I was able to rediscover her via her recent comeback song “Top or Cliff.”
The inspiration for “Top or Cliff,” the second title track of Kim Sejeong’s first full-length album “Door” came from the American psychological horror movie “Black Swan.” The song explores the duality and inner turmoil Sejeong faces as a celebrity, figuratively pushing herself to the edge of a cliff to get to the top. The MV was beautifully filmed with a brilliant performance by Sejeong. It ended with the star walking away from the burning mansion, symbolizing how she destroyed the doubt and uncertainty of “herself” and rises from the ashes of destruction.
One line I really liked in “Top or Cliff” was: “Dear God, please save the little man.” There are countless ways of interpreting things, but I interpreted it as somewhat of a prayer, asking God to save the small and insignificant man. It was super relatable since I had an absolutely terrifying time driving through a rainstorm recently. I experienced “hydroplaning” for the first time and let me tell you, that was not a fun experience. As I crawled along in rainy dismay, I had time to reflect and repent on myself. “I’m sorry gods. I apologize for my arrogance, I have learnd yet again that hubris is a fatal flaw. I am very much humbled in your presences. Please help me get home safely.”
Anyways, I listened to some of Kim Sejeong’s other songs as well and really liked her music, it’s a bit more R&B and jazzy than typical K-pop. Yay another artist to add to my fave artists list! (Jeon Somi was another recent gem I discovered, her vocals are very impressive too!)
Recently, I’ve also taken to playing games to unwind #Spider-solitaire #Unblock-Me. I enlightened to some very important life rules from these games. As I got more comfortable with playing Spider Solitaire, I started strategizing, thinking two steps, three steps, sometimes even five or six steps ahead. But I realized the more I tried to “play smart” the longer it took for me to make any move at all, the clock was still ticking and I wasn’t making any progress. Then it suddenly dawned on me: rather than taking forever to come up with the “perfect move,” I should just make a relatively smart move and work with the results from there.
From Unblock Me (the goal is to clear the path for a red wood block to pass through), I learned that I didn’t need to sit there and be overwhelmed by all the blocks on the screen, all I had to do was focus on which blocks were actually blocking my way and figure out how to most effectively clear the path.
Anyways, it’s been rather hectic and I’ve started multiple posts but haven’t really gotten around to finishing them…hopefully I’ll be able to finish them soon…XD I don’t plan on stressing out too much over blogging though, since the whole point of me starting writing again was so I’d have another creative outlet for all my ideas.
I’ll try to post at least once a week, hopefully more, but it will probably be rather random…apologies for the inconsistent publication times.
That’s all from Rosie, until next time then!
